COMMUNITY SUPPORT IS ESSENTIAL TO OUR MISSION! NO ONE SHOULD KNOW HUNGER!
The Columbia Food Bank is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit corporation and survives totally on food and financial donations plus volunteers who are gracious enough to help our cause. Without the incredible support of the community and businesses, we could not meet our clients' needs.
In 2017, we received 55,000 pounds of food from people outside the organization. Additionally, in order to provide food for healthy, nourishing meals, we had to purchase an additional 39,500 pounds of canned and packaged food plus meat, butter, eggs, and food for our Holiday Baskets at a cost of $42,500.
The total operating cost for 2017? $70,000 of which only 10% went to the staff.
The result? Enough food to provide 55,294 meals to 2,839 people in 1,412 households!
However, the net result for the year 2017 was a $7,500 loss. That means without the financial support of the communities that we serve and other gracious donors, we would not be able to continue to fulfill our mission and that of the church that founded our cause. The Food Bank would be out of business in just 14 years despite the fact that the need for food and help increases every year.
